Writing Adventure Camp
Seashore Family Literacy invites middle school students to take part in a different kind of summer fun: Creative writing combined with high-energy explorations.
The fifth annual Writing Adventure Camp runs Tuesday, July 5 through Friday, July 8, from 1pm to 4pm. The camp is free.
The program is open to students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. To inspire writing, students will hike Cape Perpetua, walk the historic Alsea Bay Bridge, explore Newport’s Bayfront, and kayak the Alsea Bay. The workshop is led by writer Drew Myron and adult mentor-volunteers. Parents are encouraged, but not required, to join in the fun.
Students meet at the Waldport Community Learning Center, located at Hwy 34 and Bay St., and enjoy writing experiences and adventures throughout the area. Students will write and explore a variety of poetry and prose forms. All writing levels and experience are welcome.
The camp is limited to 12 students and pre-registration is required. To register, call Senitila McKinley, director of Seashore Family Literacy, 563-7323; or Drew Myron, writing instructor, 547-3757.
Now in its fifth year, the Writing Adventure Camp is offered by Seashore Family Literacy, a nonprofit organization, and funded by Trust Management Services and KOHO - Yachats.
