Creative writing fueled by outdoor explorations
Seashore Family Literacy invites students ages 11 to 14 years to take part in a different kind of summer fun: Creative writing combined with outdoor explorations. The eighth annual Summer Writing Adventure Camp runs Monday, June 23 through Friday, June 27, from 10am to 4pm. Cost is $20 (scholarships available).
The program is open to students 11 to 14 years old. To inspire writing, students will hike Cape Perpetua, walk the Alsea Bay Bridge, explore Newport's working bayfront, and kayak the Alsea Bay. The camp is led by writer Drew Myron and adult mentor-volunteers.
Students meet at the Seashore’s DaNoble House, 125 NW Spruce St., and enjoy writing experiences and adventures throughout the area. Students will write and explore a variety of literary forms. All achievement and experience levels are welcome.
The camp is limited to 8 students and pre-registration is required. To register, call Senitila McKinley, director of Seashore Family Literacy, 541-563-7323.
Now in its eighth year, the Summer Writing Adventure Camp is offered by Seashore Family Literacy, a nonprofit organization, and funded in part by KOHO Oregon in Yachats, and Trust Management Services.
